Dove Academy, founded in 1997, is a tuition-free public charter school located in Detroit, Michigan. The Academy is authorized by Oakland University, and currently serves over 400 K-8 children and their families. Its mission is to "provide a high-quality education so all students become successful members of an ever-changing global society." To achieve this goal, the school's curriculum places a strong emphasis on math and language skills. All other subjects such as science, social studies, art, and physical education are supported by a solid foundation of literacy and mathematics.

  • Provides onsite and oversight to Great Start Readiness Program ("GSRP"). Oversight includes curriculum implementation and GSRP licensing. 
  • Assists as a mentor for all GSRP staff. 
  • Implements and oversees the GSRP evaluation system, which includes taking the lead in providing observation, feedback, recommendations for professional development, and follow-up. Works with the teaching team to create meaningful programs of quality. 
  • Keeps abreast of developments within Early Childhood Education and informs staff in a timely manner. 
  • Provides oversight and ensures implementation of the Highscope Curriculum in GSRP. 
  • Monitors grant and licensing regulation to ensure compliance in all GSRP classrooms. This includes the completion of child care licensing renewals and the submission of corrective action plans. 
  • Attends all director meetings at the ISD.
  • Meets regularly with the Early Childhood Specialist to ensure the proper instructional and PQA support is given by the director.
  • Maintains and updates the MiRegistry system on a regular basis. 
  • Maintains and updates the Great Start to Quality system and sustains at least 4 stars.
  • Substitutes and floats as needed to ensure the 1:8 ratio is maintained at all times.
  • Becomes apart of the school leadership team and meets at least twice a month with the principal or vice principal to ensure consistent communication between programs.
  • Is involved in the interview process of new lead and associate teacher candidates.
  • Oversees the lead teachers, associate teachers, and floats to guarantee professionalism, grant compliance, and that the culture is appropriate for all staff and students.
  • Enrolls students throughout the enrollment period.
  • Is the main connection for teachers and families and communicates all all community needs to the ECS to get proper support for families.
  • Oversees the budgeting process and makes certain that all of the program needs are met for GSRP for the GSRP Program.
  • Supports and oversees teacher observation notes in the Highscope COR system while verifying that the notes are accurate and in compliance with the COR windows.
  • Other duties as assigned by the school leader. 


Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or related field. 
  • Must have or acquire formal training in the Curriculum within two months of beginning job. 
  • Five or more years of relevant job experience. 
  • Must have or acquire knowledge of the Early Childhood Standards of Quality for Pre-K (ECSQ-PK) within two months of beginning job. 
  • Must be computer literate. 
  • Organizational and administrative
  • Ability to prioritize workload and complete tasks in a timely
  • Ability to effectively and positively communicate with and support preschool teaching staff.
  • Ability to effectively coach and mentor preschool teaching staff in the selected curriculum. 
  • Provide direction to others. 
  • Maintain accurate records. 
  • Exemplary work habits as verified by previous employer. 
  • Effective communicator in both oral and written. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills and adept at establishing and maintaining good rapport and working relationships at all organizational levels. 
  • Highly organized; ability to meet stringent deadlines, prioritize work, operate in a fast- paced work environment, and coordinate projects. 
  • Ability to work collaboratively with individuals and groups and maintain effective working environment. 
  • Ability to independently use various forms of electronic communications (email, web, text, etc.); technologically independent, with effective use of Microsoft. 
  • Meticulous about detail, efficiency and effective communicator with individuals of varied cultural and educational background. 
  • Ability to consistently exercise tact and discretion when handling highly sensitive and confidential matters. 
  • Holds a current State of Michigan Driver's License.


Desired Requirements:

  • Ability to navigate the regulatory compliance network and use multiple data warehousing.
  • Documented training in the HighScope COR Assessment. 
  • Understanding of GSRP guidelines and familiarity with the implementation.
  • A graduate degree in early childhood education or child development. 
  • A minimum of 2 semester hours (3 CEUs) in child care.

To provide consultation and oversight to the Academy's early childhood and child care staff for effective delivery of Early Childhood Education programs. This position will support and uphold the mission and vision of the academy.
