The Choice Schools Associates Communications Team is looking to add a Director of Communications to its dynamic team! We're looking for a self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced, highly creative environment. As the organization's Director of Communications, you will be responsible for crafting and writing content to create sought-after schools. This position will work alongside the team to develop and execute communications strategies to ensure that the schools we serve exceed all of their communications and enrollment objectives. The main responsibilities include writing and creating content, leading and planning communications and marketing initiatives, PR and media relations as well as parent and crisis communication. Key responsibilities and outcomes:

Develop integrated school-wide communications and enrollment plans with strategies for all audiences to help build sought-after schools

  • Work alongside the team and schools leaders to develop and lead the communications and marketing strategies for all schools within the Choice family
  • Ensure cohesiveness of all schools' brand voice for all internal and external messages - act as the umbrella for all things school marketing and communications.
  • Lead the efforts to identify and create brands for our school models: Classical, Scholars, Montessori and Environmental
  • Create and manage engaging campaigns that include content for media, blogs, promotions, marketing, parent communication, etc. in accordance with the master communications calendars
  • Lead and work alongside the communications specialist, digital communications coordinator and graphic designer to ensure we hit enrollment numbers
  • Ensure the Choice Schools' brand, as well as the schools' brands, are being lived out on all owned, earned and paid media
  • Collaborate with the team and schools to determine/create unique descriptors for schools, promotions, and services.
  • Editor of all stories, internal newsletters, business development proposals, RFPs, etc.
  • Create and update brand personas and ideal parent/student for each school
  • Prepare information and outcomes based on marketing budgets for boards and stakeholders
  • Oversee and create storylines for video projects

Create, write and lead content development and strategy for all schools and Choice

  • Act as the main writer at the organization who lives and breathes the Choice Schools brand and voice
  • Responsible for writing relevant and interesting stories for the internal and external newsletter
  • Partner with the central office team to create timely and relevant content that our employees and partners are interested in
  • Elevate the voice of the school leader, especially in our unique models, to share valuable resources for the Choice Schools family and charter school movement
  • Develop and lead a team of staff bloggers to create sought-after content for fellow teachers
  • Spotlight and interview Choice Schools teachers, staff, students, and board members for thought-provoking human-interest stories
  • Write stories that highlight the uniqueness of the models
  • Create and organize trending content marketing for Choice and school blogs by managing bloggers in each education focus area: Montessori, Environmental, Classical, and Scholars
  • Meet with the Digital Communications Coordinator to strategize on the digital platform

Assist the school leaders and department leads with internal and external communication

  • Write and lead parent communication, including staffing updates, health & safety updates, incidents, and other timely parent/guardian updates
  • Write and update the leader letters and communication, such as the first day of school letters, winter break announcements, assessment announcements, etc.
  • Work alongside the school leader and superintendent to manage media inquiries
  • Manage communication and materials for all central office departments (Onboarding, Benefits, PD, Compliance, Job Descriptions, Letters, etc)
  • Write and organize the school outward communications: forms, letters, materials for the resource page, misc. school communications
  • Help school leaders and superintendents with talking points and messaging

Lead media & public relations efforts for Choice Schools and the schools we serve

  • Write press releases, media pitches, talk points and other collateral for PR efforts
  • Pitch newsworthy stories to the media and media influencers
  • Develop relationships with media outlets and media influencers
  • Proactively identify and act upon media requests and opportunities

What we need from you (Qualifications):

  • 6+ years preferred communications experience working with multiple brands in a writing or public relations capacity with demonstrated experience with managing. comprehensive strategic communication, media relations, and marketing incentives
  • An innate ability to share stories and communicate to target audiences using a full range of communication channels.
  • Strong resilience, ability to lead through ambiguity, and persistence to move forward.
  • Experience in crisis and change management communication.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively create and execute integrated communication plans.
  • The ability to ghostwrite for an array of individuals within different departments and levels of the organization
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Marketing, Journalism, Communications, English or related field is required.
