Muskegon Montessori Academy for Environmental Change prepares students to be academically and environmentally excellent for sustained success in a global economy.


At MMAEC we give students learning options. What better way to learn about water filtration than helping revitalize rivers? Learning may begin in the classroom, but our students move from desks to dirt, planting seeds in soil, and tending to our gardens to see what happens afterward. However, just like snowflakes, we know no two children are alike. We accompany multiple different learning styles by incorporating outdoor classroom learning, with the indoor classroom.

Here at Muskegon Montessori Academy for Environmental Change (MMAEC), the world is our guidebook. Science and nature guide children at MMAEC to experience learning. What makes us great is our belief that children thrive because we allow their learning to expand to endless possibilities becoming an individualized learning path for each student.

That means we make efforts to recycle, be environmentally-conscious, and be energy-efficient in all that we do in our school. Our focus is on sustainability. We continuously look for ways to engage and educate our students on their individual actions as broader school community actions, which can then impact further out into our local community.

  • Helps teach, implement, and model appropriate behaviors with small groups and one on one with students.
  • Assist students and teachers in creating routines while in the school building.
  • Conducts assessments and evaluations in accordance with family and student rights.
  • Uses student, family, and school assessment results to identify needs that affect student learning. Assess present developmental levels for purposes of implementing academic and/or behavior intervention plans for identified students on caseload.
  • Administers necessary academic and/or behavior assessments of the eligible students above and beyond what is administered to all students.
  • Participates in Child Study Process, Individual Education Plan (IEP), and student related PLC process as required.
  • Makes referrals to public or private agencies with appropriate follow-up.
  • Serves as a liaison between school, family, and community resources.
  • Serves as a source of information regarding community resources.
  • Other duties as assigned by school leader.


Minimum Requirements:

  • Minimum of an associate's degree in related field.
  • Demonstrated competence in all areas of focus.
  • Ability to counsel students, parents, and staff, individually and in groups.
  • Excellent verbal and written expression using proper grammar and vocabulary.
  • Exemplary work habits verified by previous employers.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.

Desired Requirements:

  • Knowledge and skills working with At-Risk students.
  • Bachelors degree in related field.


To promote understanding of the emotional and social development of children and the influences of family, community, and cultural differences on student success along with the implementation of effective intervention strategies.
